Heritage Sunday Celebration

Sharon UMC recognized fifty-year members of its congregation in a special Heritage Sunday worship service on October 30, 2016.  Pastor Pablo Marty gave each of the recipients a certificate, a cross and flame pin, and a bookmark and thanked them for their years of dedication and service to the church.

Jean Lehn, one of the recipients, reflected upon her years at Sharon:  “I started attending Sharon Methodist Church in 1960.  The last fifty-six years have seen many changes.  Over the years, our focus has expanded.  We are not just a place to worship.  We serve our community through Vacation Bible School, Blood Drives, Fishes and Loaves, Operation Christmas Child, Bible Studies, Backpacks for students, Boy Scouts, and a 4-H club.  We reach out to the needs of others.”

Rev. Thomas Logsdon, IGRC Director of Connectional Ministries, was the featured speaker for the service.  The congregation was also treated to solos by Pastor Pablo Marty and Jim Stewart, a member of Elwin UMC.  The Rainbow Bell Choir performed as well.  A potluck luncheon followed the service.

Sharon UMC recognizes the following individuals who have been members for at least fifty years:  Michael Albert, Alan Bales, Patricia Bales, Reba Brown, Dan Brummerstedt, Marcella Brummerstedt, Edith Bunning, Sandra Caldwell, Beverly Carmean, Patricia Dunn, Herbert Gulick, Janice Gulick, Jean Lehn, Stanley Lehn, Francis (Bud) Wilson, and Linda Wilson.

“No matter how the face of Methodism or Sharon Church changes, we are children of God, we are family, and we are home,” said Lehn.
